The Missing Piece

There came a time when you finally got to experience the cliché. The one thing that people repeat over and over. The universal experience of questioning the purpose of your existence in this earth. 

You once belittled that whole conversation. You accused them of making a big deal out of the thin air. But now you are in that crossroad. Finally, you get to know what’s all the fuss about. 

 

It came abruptly without a warning. You lived your life. Everything seemed fine. You aced school, job and that what mattered. At least, that was what you thought there was to it. Until suddenly you realised that there is a void inside of you. You have missed the important piece of life puzzle. You forgot that life is not just about material achievements. 

 

There you were sitting in the middle of your 10x10m² living room facing your gigantic flat screen TV and everything felt cold. None of your possessions give you warmth. Not even your expensive cashmere. 

 

“What is it that I miss” you uttered the inevitable question. “What is it that I miss”. “What is it that I miss”. “What is it that I miss”. “What is it that I miss”. “What is it that I miss”. You repeat the question countless of times. Despite all the evidence, you couldn’t seem to have it all figured it out.

 

The light bulb finally switched on. By that time, it was too late. You were already in your mid forty and the one thing that should have completed you, who was there waiting for you to place it inside the puzzle, had already disappeared. She stayed long enough to give you enough time to notice that she was your missing piece. But day moment never came. So, she left. She concluded that she was wrong. You were not her missing piece. She opened herself up for another heart that appreciated her presence, attention, and affection. 

 

It was all too late. You were too slow to realise the essence of life.
